Enrol to vote
The coalition Government has changed the Electoral Act, making it harder for people to vote in the 2026 Election.
These changes remove the ability to enrol or update your details in the final 12 days before Election Day. If you have moved house since the last election, you will probably need to update your details.
If you are not enrolled by Sunday 25 October 2026, you will not be able to vote.
You can enrol if you are:
- 18 or older
- A New Zealand citizen or permanent resident
- Have lived in Aotearoa New Zealand for more than 12 months and your visa does not require you to leave within a specified time
