Stand with North Shore Emergency Department Nurses
In August 2026, North Shore Emergency Department nurses declared a “state of emergency” over unsafe staffing levels.
The department is regularly operating at 200 to 300 percent of capacity, putting enormous pressure on nurses and putting patients at risk.
This is not simply the result of a bad flu season.
Retrospective safe staffing data from 2025 to 2026 shows that North Shore Emergency Department needs 25 additional nursing FTE to safely meet patient demand. Te Whatu Ora has had this information throughout the year.
The answer to make your care better and safer is clear: fund the 25 FTE.
Nurses need your help.
Our public health system belongs to all of us, and we all have a stake in making sure it is properly staffed and resourced.
Join nurses and our community in demanding safe staffing at North Shore Emergency Department.
Tell Minister of Health Simeon Brown and Te Whatu Ora Chief Executive Dale Bramley:
Fund the 25 FTE needed to safely staff North Shore Emergency Department.
The New Zealand Nurses Organisaton Tōpūtanga Tapuhi Kaitiaki o Aotearoa will collate the messages and send it on your behalf.
