23 October Save our Services rallies

NZNO members at Te Whatu Ora and the Department of Corrections members have voted strongly in favour of taking strike action on Thursday 23 October 2025.

The strike at Te Whatu Ora will be a complete withdrawal of labour at every place in New Zealand where Health New Zealand provides health services and/or disability support services. The strike at the Department of Corrections will be a complete withdrawal of labour at every place in New Zealand at which the Department of Corrections provides health care.

Tens of thousands of public sector workers including teachers, principals, support staff, doctors and allied health have also balloted or are considering balloting for strike action on Thursday 23 October. Te Whatu Ora nurses, midwives and health care assistants will stand shoulder to shoulder and call on the Government to invest in public services so we have the resources to fix understaffing in our hospitals, schools, fire stations and other essential public services. All New Zealanders who care about our public services and who can should turn up to support these historic rallies. If you are not rostered to work, come along and be part of these historic rallies.
